Someone suggested I might be experiencing lag on a game server due to my slow upload speed, even though my download is strong. I’m concerned whether my 2.3 Mbps upload is contributing to the issue, especially since I assumed 40 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload would be sufficient.
Your connection is good—verify your latency between you and the game server.
Absolutely, having a local server close by is essential for smooth gaming. Minimizing latency is crucial.
It matters if the game employs a peer-to-peer link, though here Battle.net provides its own servers.
Absolutely, peer-to-peer wasn't on my radar. I mostly just focus on playing games.
The in-game ping counter typically stays between 30 and 35, then drops to 45-50 with a lag indicator. My local ping is around 10-12 as shown in the screenshot. It seems the slow connection is mainly due to uploading during gameplay. Are you asking about what you upload while playing? It’s likely just mouse commands.
Timothy J Gracey from Facebook... they’re mistaken, pal! Just message me directly on FB and I’ll clarify it for you. That’s where the discussion happens. https://www.facebook.com/groups/WorldofW...tersGroup/
He keeps trolling you. Normal gaming doesn't need fast uploads. You'd handle 1mbs easily. Ping shows how long it takes data to travel back and forth from the server to you. Your distance matters most, but both your download speed and the server's connection also play a role. If many people are far away, everyone's pings increase. This happens because the server must process all packets. Delays can come from PC processes or other devices using your link. Sometimes it's server-side lag—someone else connecting with high ping—or just a poor overall connection. With distributed servers, it's tricky to pinpoint the problem. Usually, if you're gaming and sites load slowly, the issue is on your side.
