It's generally better to stick with CAT 6a using a consumer router rather than going higher. You don’t need CAT 5e for Gigabit speeds. I’d prefer a budget CAT 6 cable over a product that claims CAT 8. I’ve encountered more issues with cables advertising higher ratings than lower ones. Also, double-check the motherboard socket physically—since it performed initially but then required downgrading, it might indicate poor contact or dirt buildup.

I recently purchased it but haven’t tested it with any Cat5e, 6, or 6A cables. The brand is Kalron, and I haven’t noticed any issues on the cable itself. The drivers are current, and reinstalling didn’t make a difference. I’m located in South Korea, using LGU+ Wi-Fi and a modem—unbeknownst to me what model it is or the router’s specs.

The device doesn't have a serial number label or other identifying marks on it. You can access the ISP unit directly to verify the port condition. Use a dampened cotton swab to clean the port contacts, let it dry, then retest. Regarding the NIC, check its negotiation status in hardware properties, see if Device Manager lists any missing drivers or errors, and confirm all necessary motherboard drivers are installed.

When we refer to alcohol, we mean cleaning solutions, not a nearby bottle of whiskey.

Ethernet functions properly but the connection to gigabit internet is unstable, appearing only briefly before dropping or fluctuating.

Test another port on the switch. Disable Energy Efficient Ethernet. Verify the PC is connected directly to the switch using the patch cable. Ensure there are no horizontal cables or wall jacks present.

It functions as a wall jack yet provides gigabit connectivity for other devices on the same surface.

I've also attempted to turn off the energy-efficient Ethernet setting.
