Hey everyone. I'm checking if it's okay to stream high-quality videos at night and whether some internet providers might slow things down after dark. The issue started around 10 PM when I can't watch 1080p videos smoothly on my Wi-Fi, but earlier in the day I can stream 1440p without any lag. I even had to pause a YouTube video for a few seconds every couple of minutes just to let it download properly. We pay for a solid 50 Mb/s connection with 10 Mb/s upload speed, and the router is just a short distance away—about six meters—when connected to my phone.

Typically, higher traffic occurs when more individuals are connected during evening or night hours compared to daytime in your region.

It's unlikely most individuals are online at 10 PM on Monday evenings. This isn't typically an issue during weekends.

Begin by checking for any problems in your home. At the moment, there were slow performance issues related to things like Apple syncing and cloud storage. Conduct a thorough Ethernet speed test and turn off all wireless connections. If you achieve full speed, gradually bring devices back online. Also note that the son was downloading large files, which led to the parents suspecting the computer. After unplugging everything, it worked again in about five minutes, but then dropped to very slow speeds once reconnected. It seems our mistake might have been a virus or malware on the PC. The network capacity could also be limited. Our competitor offering faster speeds and cheaper rates started experiencing network overload.

I think it might not be my computer because I don’t use torrents or anything. My machine is also off when I checked. My mom mainly uses her iPad and a phone connected to the living room speakers to listen to radio or Spotify. I’ve disabled all syncing features and kept everything local. She has almost nothing on her phone, and I’m not sure it’s syncing for five hours. Yes, I’ve tried staying online from 10 PM to 3 AM with a weak network—it really messes up. It’s just me and my mom living in the house, and we have a strong secure code on the network, so I don’t think anyone is accessing it from outside.

Electrical gadgets like heaters programmed to activate at night may disrupt signals elsewhere, affecting people beyond your home.

It's hard to determine without more details. It might be your own device, the ISP's issue, or a local problem. A rogue Android box blocking Wi-Fi wasn't linked to anything.

It seems you're referring to TDC and VDSL/ADSL connections. There might be a performance issue due to low-quality telephone copper cables.

I have Fullrate, but I’m limited to 50/10 due to restrictions because I reside in the old home of H.C Andersen. This also means Asians often take photos of my living room. The issue is how can it slow things down when only I’m on the phone watching videos? It might get delayed if I download a new game, which then causes my mom’s radio app to stop working since my PC handles all internet traffic. Even at night when the PC is off, it still happens.

Interesting! The connection slows down near the copper wire to your home. You should contact Fullrate and request a measurement. They can confirm whether you're using ADSL or VDSL. The decision depends on a module inside the telephone box that identifies your line type. If it's ADSL, ask a technician from TDC to inspect the box and possibly upgrade the module. I used to work with an ISP for this kind of issue.
