In general, I've always had stable Wi-Fi connections, usually around 15 to 20 Mbps. Recently, my speeds have dropped significantly to about 4 Mbps or less. I've contacted my ISP, adjusted channels and DNS settings, but nothing has improved. I haven't relocated my computer since I achieved those speeds, and using Ethernet would be challenging because the router is on the second floor.

Do you experience maximum performance on Ethernet? If yes, the issue likely lies with the router. If not, the problem may be with your ISP.

supporting your view further, most ISPs only promise speeds to your home network, not the actual performance you experience. This is because they can't influence the devices or settings on your router. I've faced numerous BT-related problems in the past, and in most cases it was their responsibility, though that's not always the case. Try using an Ethernet cable to see if it improves the situation.

They swapped all the coaxial wires for fiber optic in my home and confirmed right there that I’m getting the 1Gbps speed promised by the router. It’s an excellent ISP—the best I’ve ever used.
