Internet Connectivity Issues
Internet Connectivity Issues
So I am having problems with my internet after finishing the PC. When it turned on, it wouldn't connect to the internet a lot of times. Even though the cables are all connected right and the wifi is working fine, the pc acts like there is no way to connect. What fixed this was turning off the BIOS UEFI settings first. But now I still have problems with the connection. Usually when I start an online game or start streaming, the internet breaks sometimes. This usually got fixed by unplugging the ethernet cable from the PC and plugging it back in, or restarting the router, though these didn't always work and sometimes I had to wait for it to decide to work properly. It has been very annoying. At first I thought the wifi was bad, but not long after changing providers, the wifi was fine, just the pc. I updated the motherboard drivers and checked to see if i can update the network drivers in device manager, but they are already up to date. Today i found a command prompt on reddit that had fixed a lot of wifi connectivity woes and tried it, but still didn't fix it (will post below). Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem is and how to fix it? I'll post PC parts in case its a power supply issue though i've upgraded several parts over the years and haven't noticed any change in frequency of the problems Thanks. Commands: ipconfig /flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns, ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, netsh winsock reset (I restarted the computer after completing this command.) PC details: ASUS PRIME Z490-A, Nvidia RTX WINDFORCE OC 4060 8GB 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro, I9-10850K (44% overclocked), ID-COOLING SE-234-ARGB w/120mm Fan, 6x Corsair ML120 RGB Elite, 850W Aerocool, Integrated graphics. Here is a rewritten version using simple words while keeping your voice as "I":
"Even though I connected the cable right at both ends and my wifi worked fine, it didn't connect like it should. Do you have both wired and wireless network adapters turned on at the same time? Usually, only one adapter (whether wired or wireless) should be active for most people. Run this command from your Command Prompt: ipconfig /all. Please post all the full results here so I can read them easily without needing to retype anything. Also, tell me which make and model of modem, router, or combined modem/router you have."
I am checking my computer settings on Windows. My name is DESKTOP-AL087T3, and my main internet address (Primary DNS) is set up for a place called home. This machine has hybrid IP routing turned off, but it does have WINS Proxy turned off as well. I don't have a specific list of places to look when searching for domains.
My Ethernet adapter works like this:
- It says "home" in Connection-specific DNS Suffix.
- The computer is named Intel® Ethernet Controller I225-V.
- My physical address (MAC address) is D4-5D-64-B0-DB-47.
- DHCP was turned on and Autoconfiguration was also turned on when this info came up.
I have a temporary IPv6 address: 2a00:23c7:51eb:3701:eac7:5168:faba:2538 (this is the preferred one).
Also, I have another temporary IPv6 address: 2a00:23c7:51eb:3701:40e0:7c66:ee0b:7285 (the other preferred one).
My link-local IPv6 address is fe80::b4b7:f412:8b74:26c8%14.
For regular internet, my IPv4 address is 192.168.1.209 (this is the preferred one).
My subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
I got this lease on April 29, 2025 at 13:34:25 AM and it expires on April 30, 2025 at 13:34:25 PM.
My default gateway is fe80::d686:60ff:fe15:250a%14 which corresponds to the IP 192.168.1.254.
The DHCP server is also at 192.168.1.254, and there is a specific identifier for my DHCPv6 client called DHCPv6 IAID: 164912484.
My DUID (a unique ID for my computer) is 00-01-00-01-27-E3-A7-3F-D4-5D-64-B0-DB-47.
There are DNS servers set to the same address: fe80::d686:60ff:fe15:250a%14 which corresponds to 192.168.1.254.
Also, NetBIOS over Tcpip is enabled.
When it comes to specific places for my computer name, it says home. My actual router is from BT, and it is called Halo 3. I am not sure if you were asking about that one or a different internet connection since there is no wireless adapter built directly into the PC. Although I did get a wireless adapter plugged in at some point, it was really poor quality so I switched to using the wired Ethernet cable instead. Now this wire is disconnected from my computer.
I took out the wireless USB gadget's driver and program, hoping it will work now.
Make sure only one network card (either wired or wireless) is turned on. Don't use both at once. The command "ipconfig /all" shows a wired connection, but the results are missing some lines. Also, the line about DNS says "home". Did you set that up correctly? Here are a few steps to fix it: turn off IPv6, and change your DNS servers to Google's numbers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
