Internet connection rates are reaching limits
I'm just starting out with this forum. I have three computers at home, all connected via WiFi 6 through PCIe cards. Two are next to each other, one is across the room. Two are performing well (500-800 Mbps), but one is only 8-100 Mbps. I suspect it's not a network issue since the side-by-side unit works fine and the other one is fast. I've changed the WiFi cards between devices and still see the same speed. I've adjusted antennas, confirmed drivers are identical, checked the motherboard driver, and even reset network settings with the command prompt. Still no solution.
You might need to reinstall Windows if you've updated the drivers and confirmed you're connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. This seems to point to a possible software problem. You've essentially followed the steps a typical user should take.
Could you verify the issue by exchanging boot drives between a strong PC and the affected one? Updated: I swapped the drives with another machine and the problematic PC achieved speeds comparable to the others. The problem seems software-based. One system runs Windows 11, the other two use Windows 10. I plan to reinstall Windows 11 and if issues persist, I’ll attempt a rollback to Windows 10 as others did. Edited May 7, 2023 by VeNoM4004
Consider resetting the network stack first. Here’s the link: https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/e...ducts.html
I tried the advice @beanhubbleday gave but didn’t see any help. I reinstalled Windows 11 but kept everything intact. The issue stayed, so I disabled all startup programs before restarting. After that, the problem disappeared and downloads worked normally. I’m now backing up what I really need to save. Then I plan another install where I’ll leave my files but remove all programs. I’ll check back later. UPDATE: The fix is complete. I opted for a clean reinstall just to clear out my startup apps, but it wasn’t the root cause. It turned out one of my startup programs was the culprit. I tested my antivirus alone first to rule that out, since it seemed like the only obvious option. If anyone else faces this and prefers not to start over, turning off all startup apps and rebooting should help. After restarting, I can test each app individually and run speed checks to pinpoint the bottleneck.
