Hello, I placed the 15m Cat7 cable from the box downstairs to the router upstairs. It’s only been used temporarily and isn’t long enough. Should I leave it inside as it is now or move it outside on the wall to the back? The simpler choice is to install it outside and then run it inside through existing holes, though it might affect speed.

Using the right outdoor cable ensures stability and prevents problems from humidity or other factors. You can safely install it outside.

It increases the length of the cable when used outdoors, but inside it causes more interference with other devices. Choose a 40m Cat8 for outdoor use.

Is it okay to live with the cable inside? Many people have them just for appearance, and a lot run outside like your Ethernet or cable. I have an outdoor Ethernet port and it seems fine. Probably won’t drop below -5 to -10°C, as noted. Edited December 17, 2024 by thrasher_565

I can, even if it's black—others around the house. Hmmmm... I'm going to follow the walls from the living area to the back, then climb up into the floor and reach the upstairs room.

There are ways to achieve a neat appearance inside, such as under floor molding and door moldings using jacks, but only if done properly. Who decides the final result? Edited December 17, 2024 by thrasher_565
