Windows 10 updates are addressing various bugs. Sleep functionality appears inconsistent, especially when a VLC window is active. I notice sleep sometimes fails but works when the VLC window is closed. Other video and DVD players seem to behave similarly. A process cleanup issue also persists after running certain applications; it’s unusual for cleanups to be complete, and rebooting seems necessary for full recovery. On some machines, even after shutting down VLC, sleep doesn’t work properly—results are expected but not confirmed. Frequently, my video output quality is poor and the display responds poorly. These problems seem serious and should be rare. Likely other users face comparable challenges. I prefer a stable base system over frequent updates from Microsoft.
Microsoft faces challenges because they can only evaluate a tiny fraction of available Windows configurations. The fact that Windows functions well on many systems still shows its strong base, but the issues stem from the additional layers people add.
