I've searched a bit but didn't find much helpful. I thought I'd post here since about six months ago I bought a Dell Inspiron with Windows 10 and switched it to Win10 Pro. The machine is now running version 21H2. Last week I got a Dell XPS Desktop with the same setup, also updated to 21H2. I noticed when I create shortcuts, an annoying little arrow appears—which I really dislike. Used to have an option to prevent that, but it seems they removed it. I looked online and found a registry trick in regedit to stop the arrow. But now I get those black boxes over the icons eventually, which still bothers me. I started wondering why the laptop never shows arrows on shortcuts from the start. I checked the registry for any existing key that might have been changed—like if I accidentally modified it during a regedit fix. Most people suggest backing up the registry, but I’m not sure how to do that across both machines and compare them properly. If anyone has tips or suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. I’m frustrated by these boxes and even more so because I don’t understand why the laptop worked fine from the beginning but the desktop doesn’t. I hope someone can help me figure out how it was originally set up to avoid those issues.

This feature is specific to Windows. (And a poor choice—your desktop should be for apps, not just files.) Could share it on the Windows forum. MacOS and Linux (most dess) don’t support this.
