Many have debated that a superior motherboard offers greater VRM or additional phases for the CPU. My setup uses an MSI Z490 Pro with an 8-pin EPS and an extra 4-pin EPS. It boots fine even with just the 8 pins connected. The real question is whether all the VRM are being utilized or if they're operating at partial capacity because only eight pins are connected. Personally, I think the difference isn't noticeable unless you draw a substantial amount of power.

8-pin configuration handles up to 235W continuous power. For this, you'd likely require a powerful overclocked CPU running at full capacity all the time. I haven’t connected the 4-pin version since I prefer a cleaner setup without extra cables.

This setup supplies energy to the CPU while the VRM manages power conversion from 12V down to the CPU’s requirements. Typically, certain VRMs require around 5V for proper operation, which is available through a 24-pin connector. It should function perfectly.

Even under maximum CPU usage, the remaining components stay within 50W. At full CPU load, the Athlon 3000G uses just 59W... That’s the key takeaway—I suggest using the 4-pin connector for the 10700K and opt for it on the 10900K for extra safety.

You don't require the additional 4-pin connector. It's only necessary when pushing ~5.2-5.3GHz+ across all cores on a 10900K while using Prime95 Small FFT, but by then you'll likely already stressed the VRMs on your Z490-A Pro.
