Has anyone experienced their Steam account being taken over and items stolen? I’ve lost around $26 worth of stuff, plus another $15, but I managed to protect my account by updating passwords and securing it. I’m not sure how it happened—I’m trying to understand. Do you have any advice from Steam Support in such cases? Were your items recovered? How long did the process take? Thank you for any help; I’m really worried because I’m only 14 and this is my first major loss. It’s frustrating and makes me feel very vulnerable. Hope others facing similar situations are safe.
Friend fell victim to a scam involving his knife. It seems he inadvertently handed it over. Steam support didn’t assist much, though I get why that would be frustrating.
Performing a virus/malware check reveals a potential keylogger or similar threat. Changing the software won't erase the damage yet. That's your initial action.
Ensure your email and Steam passwords are distinct. Verify you're logging into steampowered.com to avoid phishing sites. I suspect there might be some malware targeting Steam accounts, though I'm not sure. Also, Origin's support is excellent compared to Steam's, but the rest of their services fall short.
I had a solid track record with them before, except for the recent sale period when I couldn't purchase something due to an issue. I reached out and they temporarily locked my account for an unknown reason. Steam's security feature prevents transactions for a few days after changing passwords, which helped me avoid missing just one game during the entire sale.
