There are a few cross-platform options available. You and your friend can try games that support multiple systems, though the selection is limited.

PS4 has Rocket League, Xbox One might support it soon, Minecraft could work too, but on PC it needs Windows 10 for cross-play. Otherwise it’s not so easy.

Rocket League is available, but note there are no gatherings, so you won’t be playing online with random players. Only private servers are possible because they just require a password.

You can't play Minecraft because it isn't available on other platforms. The only version is Windows 10 and works only with Pocket Edition. It's just not good quality overall, coming from someone who's been playing it almost all their time for six years.

Final Fantasy 14 is available for PC, PS3/4, The Division for PC and XBOne, and COD: Ghosts on PC and XBOne (PS4 status uncertain). Those are the main options I recall.

The division and cod ghost isn't compatible across platforms (use Google more). Ff14 is okay.

I played Minecraft and tried it with Xbox One users, but they were asked to purchase Windows 10 on their consoles.
