Intending to utilize a "test version" disc to bypass steam downloads.
The situation is clear: my internet connection is slow. I just installed Dirt Rally on Steam, but it will take days to finish. I only get home on weekends, so I can’t install it then. My friend has a physical copy with a trial version. Can I use that to download the game files onto my Steam library and start the download through Steam? I’m hoping this will let Steam detect the missing files and complete the installation faster. Have others tried this before? What problems might arise?
Note: The trial version is pirated.
Sorry, I don't understand. Could you clarify what you're asking? Are you looking for something specific related to steam files?
The physical version lacks certain steam files needed to launch the game, and it's currently in trail version.
I see. You're asking about the meaning of "trial" here, which refers to a copied version. Should I skip downloading any extra files and just install the missing ones? This should speed up the setup process.
You can simply paste the game folder into SteamApps and begin the download. Make sure the file is from a trusted source on Steam. Once the download completes, check that the game is properly installed.
The kid doesn't understand what I'm explaining. I used GTA5 to preload it without actually investing any money, just in case things didn't go well.
