No one seems to be discussing the i5 10400f much. In the UK it sells for half the price of a Ryzen 5 5600x. This chip has six cores and twelve threads, handling performance that stays competitive or only slightly lags behind more than 10 frames per second. I find it hard to see the value in the 5600x. The issue stems from the fact that the 10400F needs a Z490 board for RAM capacity over 2666, while Ryzen doesn't require it.
To achieve maximum performance from a 10400f, an expensive board is required, which somewhat undermines its value. At lower RAM speeds it still lags behind Ryzen, and even mid-range boards cost more than Ryzen options. While the CPU might be cheaper, you'll end up paying much more for the motherboard.

I’d choose the more affordable option from these two... Ryzen 5 3600 Gigabyte A520M S2H / ASRock B450M Pro4 DDR4-3600MHz (2x16GB) dual rank Core i5-10400F ASRock Z490 or another budget Z board DDR4-3600MHz+ (2x16GB) dual-rank. Any mix that’s cheaper works unless you want overclocking then AMD + B450!
I often think your performance drops if you don’t have fast RAM with Ryzen. I began researching the 10400F after my brother received 32GB of 2400MHz RAM for free.
