I recently purchased a preassembled CPU from Best Buy for gaming and streaming. I’m not entirely satisfied with the components I received. After some discussions on the forum and research, I think I’ve figured out what I want to do. However, I have a few questions. My current configuration is... CPU - i7-9700F @ 3.00GHz, MOBO - Gigabyte B365M DS3H GPU, RTX 2070 Super RAM at 2133MHz (can’t change it because the motherboard limits in BIOS), HDD - 1 TB. I plan to upgrade to CPU - Ryzen 7 3700X @ 4.4Ghz, MOBO - Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite GPU, RTX 2070 Super RAM, Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB, HDD - 1 TB SSD, and CPU cooling with Noctua NH-D15. I’ve looked at rebuilding CPUs before but never transferred HDDs between different MOBO models. My worry is whether everything will remain intact after moving all the parts and if I can simply boot it up without any hassle. I don’t want to stress about installing Windows or anything else. What’s the best way to make this transition?

Technically you can simply install it, but it's usually advised to reinstall the operating system after a significant hardware change (like swapping the motherboard) to remove old drivers and avoid problems. Insert your OS drive first, then add the other drives to prevent accidental deletions or partition issues.

Just to make sure, what purpose does this PC serve? If it's for gaming, I'd stick with the 9700 right now. For content creation and rendering, upgrading to a Ryzen CPU would be beneficial. But for gaming itself, the 9700 works fine—you won't see much improvement from AMD.

He had to replace the motherboard, so he’s moving to AMD info from the earlier post.

Choosing to spend on an SSD means getting better value per gigabyte. In USD prices, these options stand out: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HmmFf7/...b-rktq-1tb https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9vWBD3/...000m81000g https://pcpartpicker.com/product/QQrmP6/...ds100t3x0c All still include DRAM cache; the WD black is my top pick. The CPU cooler works well but might be a bit too much for the 3700X, so I suggest: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Jbm323/...cfre00062a https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8GBrxr/...-scmg-5100 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VmMwrH/...eptwin-rgb https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wPkj4D/...twin-white I personally favor the Deepcool NEPTWIN, it offers nearly the same performance as the NH-D15 but at a fraction of the cost.

The WD Black ranks among the top-tier NVMe storage options, possibly surpassing the 970 EVO. I use three units, and my primary system handles heavy read/write operations without any issues. These Samsung drives are labeled as "tax."

Hmm, seems like you're saying it's fine if the airflow isn't too bad, and the M.2 NVMe storage is definitely a good investment.

No, RGB Vengeance won't fit under a D15.
