Hello, I hope everyone is well and healthy. I own a Dell Precision 3440 SFF workstation equipped with an Intel W480 chipset (details available here: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/pu...-brief.pdf) and an Intel Xeon W 1290 processor. According to Dell, the system can support these HDD setups (refer to page 15 of the setup guide: https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/precisio..._en-us.pdf):

A. One M.2 PCIe SSD paired with one 3.5" HDD
B. One M.2 PCIe SSD paired with two 2.5" HDDs

I’m considering whether to use a mix of drive sizes:
- Option A: One M.2 PCIe SSD with one 3.5" HDD and one 2.5" SSD
- Option B: One M.2 PCIe SSD with two 2.5" SSDs

My goal is to run VMware ESXi while keeping enterprise-grade storage affordable. I’m opting for NAS-grade HDDs (the kind I already have) and adding a single extra 2.5" SSD to boost IOPS. As the number of VMs increases, latency becomes an issue, so I’m trying to minimize those errors.

I bought the machine with a 5-year warranty about three months ago. I’ve also connected a NAS (Synology) via iSCSI to host several machines. I currently use one M.2 SSD for partition mounts rather than as a boot device because it isn’t enterprise-level.

Thank you.
