Upgrading platform is coming soon—anyone know if frame pacing works better on Intel or AMD? The 1% and 0.1% lows don’t clearly show frame-to-frame timing. Some users have experience with both, but I’m curious if there’s any insight here. Right now I’m using a 5800X3D with only AMD CPUs, possibly moving to Intel soon. My current chip runs smoothly and often beats benchmark results when you check the frame time graphs. Intel uses a different design without a fabric layer, which might offer lower latency for data transfer—sounds like it could be better if I need very consistent frame times.

The X3D chips are likely the top choice for frame pacing hardware.

I currently have a 5800x3d and previously owned a 5600x. Performance is better now, though some games still feel shaky. Most of the time it’s about optimizing the game, but I wanted to share what others experienced. I used an AMD GPU, which was much worse than an NVIDIA one, so I wasn’t sure if Intel could have made a difference.

Notably, with improved frame pacing from AMD GPUs at this moment, the drivers perform more efficiently.

Reviewing my previous updates reveals the challenges I encountered with their GPUs, which eventually captured my attention despite minor discrepancies. Nvidia consistently outperformed me in every aspect.

You’re looking at a 5800x3D setup—no immediate upgrade needed for about five years. Nothing recent has significantly improved performance enough to justify replacing it. Unless you have plenty of disposable cash and are okay spending roughly every three years.

AMD has made significant advancements. I’m comfortable with my 7900XTX after ten years of using NVidia hardware—GTX770, then 2060S and now 3080. They’ve addressed the high power consumption issue during idle or browsing (which used to approach 100W due to high VRAM clock speed, now down to 30-40W). The drivers are also more efficient for the CPU, which is crucial near the bottleneck. SAM really enhances GPU performance, though ReBAR on NVidia didn’t help much.

I don't need the highest average FPS. Focus on smooth frame rate, especially at 1% and 0.1% lows, since I'm affected by minor stuttering or frame timing issues.

Examine thoroughly to fully tighten the secondary and advanced clock settings. Zen requires very low memory latency for optimal frame rates, yet even minor adjustments like refining tRDD, tFAW, and tRFC timing can significantly improve performance.

Thanks for the info. I kept things light before diving in, but based on XMP ratings, I’ve got this. I own a 3600 cl16 Corsair Vengeance SSD with Samsung B Die, tested it for about 16 hours of varied memory tests and it’s holding up well—just needs a closer review.
