the cpu is straightforward to purchase from aliexpress with the 86$ 8400f, 120$ 7500f and 168$ 7700 rams. if you really need it, you might want to check out hynix or teamgroup 5600c46—there’s likely used b650s available too.

The 8400F will likely compete closely with the 9900K. It isn't a major improvement; it's more of a comparable model, possibly even a step down.

The B550 doesn't work with AM5 processors. Use a different board like A620, B650, B840, B850, X670 or X870.

That's the problem and why I don't suggest swapping to AM5—it won't improve things much with the present budget. This could just be about the budget itself before considering resale value, and a 9900k + mobo + rams setup should comfortably reach $200 or at least $150. That means you won't need to save too long for a 9800x3d. However, they might still be waiting since they're still being resold at a discount.

Avoid choosing the 7600x over the 5700x3d. Stick with the available RAM if possible. The best option is to maintain the 9900K, OC it, and upgrade later when you're ready for a new GPU.

You could upgrade significantly with an extra $50-100, as AMD offers top processors for the latest and next-gen models. While you might find a unit under $250, matching both a motherboard and CPU within that range isn't common. A 12th gen Intel remains a strong choice. Newegg currently has an i5-12600kf for $145.59 (sale), which is typical; the regular price would be around $155. A 32GB DDR4 RAM setup is likely, and a budget-friendly LGA-1700 DDR4 motherboard could be had for as little as $60. For a full upgrade under $250, the MSI PRO B760M-P DDR4 board is available at $99.99, provided you also have compatible cooling and storage components.
