I'm planning to replace the CPU in your Z390 Pro mobile with an AMD option. You're considering upgrading from an I9-9900K and have a solid setup: 32GB of 3000MHz RAM, an RTX 3080 at 10GB, and a RM850 PSU. Since you're unsure between Intel and AMD, leaning toward AMD makes sense. Your gaming needs are high, especially for titles like Escape from Tarkov and other FPS games. With a $250 budget, you'll want to balance performance and cost. A decent mobile GPU for that CPU would likely be the RTX 3080, so you're looking at a solid combo. Think about staying within your budget for the new CPU and ensuring the RAM and PSU fit your requirements.

For a $250 total, skip the upgrade—any motherboard/CPU combo you find will still fall short of your 9900K. If you're only spending around $250 on the CPU and a bit on the board, share the full budget; platform prices vary (like B850 vs B760), so an AMD build might cost more upfront but could be cheaper overall.

According to the details, spending $250 for the whole setup means you’re limited. No further upgrades are possible at that cost. If only the CPU is $250 and you can reduce the motherboard and RAM by about $200 (bringing it to $450), you might consider a Ryzen 5 7600(X) or a 7500F depending on availability. Alternatively, you could wait for a shipment from AliExpress. For Intel, gaming performance isn’t improved beyond that price range; you’d need a 13600K(F) or 14600K(F), which is significantly more expensive and comes with higher board costs. You could still use your existing DDR4, though this will slightly lower overall speed since it won’t pair with DDR5.

Yes, it could work well. The Ryzen 5 7600X offers strong performance, and the MSI B55-A PRO ATX provides solid cooling for high-end builds.

Ensure your CPU connects properly with a compatible socket and chipset motherboard. Use an AM5 board from the 6xx or 8xx series.

The 7600X isn't compatible with the B550-A Pro.

There isn't an affordable AM5 board that's truly e-waste, especially when paired with AMD and you end up spending around $250. Be careful about what you buy—this kind of build is often low quality. Don’t downgrade to just 16GB single-channel RAM; it’s not as fast as CL36 but it works fine.

b650m pg lightning, hdv, etc., are displayed in that chart for VRMS, though at around $250 you’d likely need to purchase an 8400f/7500f off AliExpress overclock. The 9900k can run with RAM at 4400-4600 or higher using 1.45V VCCSA/IO, and once you have enough, upgrading to a 9800x3d would be a major improvement compared to the 9900k.

You can find excellent motherboards for around 250 dollars. Just make sure to include the CPU and RAM too while keeping the cost in check. In fact, you’ll often get a solid motherboard at that price range.
