Upgrading paths is often overstated. Sure, I can purchase a budget CPU now that’s lagging behind and plan to upgrade later—it makes good sense financially. Just grab a 3600/3700x today and don’t stress about what will be better in five years... probably DDR5 by then, which would require a new setup.
Certainly. Even when measured against the 3950x, a chip from five years ago will probably match its power today. Why not upgrade and get a new motherboard, too? You gain fresh options with extended warranties, and you can recoup the expense by selling your older gear. Haha, in five years we might be a year behind on DDR6. DDR5 is expected to launch next year.
It's even more amusing when folks highlight the upgrade route as a benefit for those moving from core 2 quad or phenom setups...bro they're making changes over a decade, so no upgrade path will ever justify buying anything except what's needed right now.
for gaming i suggest choosing the 9100f now. it’s because you won’t be handling multi-threaded tasks with it, and since your system uses a lower-end chipset not designed for such work, a single-threaded processor would be better. zen 1 is quite outdated now and has shown wear, so opting for the 9100f gives you a more robust single-threaded option. additionally, the apu on the 1400g won’t be fully utilized, making the 9100f a smarter choice.
Sharing this now, but many of these comparison clips are entirely fake Saw versions where the results match perfectly in every test. That won’t occur if the parts were truly identical.
AMD tends to generate more heat compared to Intel, especially at similar performance levels. For a fanless setup like the Streacom DB4, choosing a CPU with lower thermal output would simplify passive cooling. Stock speeds and voltages play a big role in heat generation, so AMD chips often require more careful thermal management.
I was just watching DragonBall Z a couple of days ago and then I noticed how AMD managed to outdo Intel in both performance and price. If you're like me, I’d definitely choose AMD, though not the first generation models. A decent used second-generation CPU would be even more economical, but if you manage it, a Ryzen 5 3600 or Ryzen 3 3400G could be a solid option.
