This topic has appeared multiple times before and will keep showing up as long as Intel and AMD remain competitors in the CPU space. My goal isn’t to declare one brand superior to another; I want a balanced view without sounding biased. I’m open to any insights you can share—like the advantages and disadvantages of each processor, personal experiences with AMD or Intel, or recommendations for upgrades. I plan to upgrade my PC soon and hope this research helps me make an informed choice.

Currently, my setup looks like this:
- Motherboard: MSI Z370 Gaming Plus
- CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K (3.70GHz)
- GPU: EVGA 2070 Super
- Power Supply: EVGA Supernova 1000G+
- Case: Corsair 1000D Super Tower
- RAM: PNY XLR8 Gaming, 16GB (2x8GB), 3200MHz DDR4
- Motherboard: CL16, 1.35V

I’m considering either a 7 or 9-core processor from either manufacturer, since most modern games now need at least a 7 core. I’m leaning toward Intel’s Z790 series but am unsure about AMD options. I appreciate how MSI designs their boards—especially the MPG and MEG ratings. For now, I’m just looking for reliable information to guide my decision.

The question would be clearer if AMD and Intel each produced just one CPU model. For comparison, you'd need to examine particular CPU designs. The main distinction usually lies in raw performance and the balance of cost versus speed. Almost nothing an AMD chip can achieve differs from what an Intel chip can do, especially for everyday users, so ultimately it boils down to: How much are you prepared to invest in a CPU, which option provides the greatest value at that price?

Approximately 25 years ago, one or both companies likely had certain benefits with extensions such as MMX or 3D. Nowadays, these options are interchangeable, and the decision depends more on your specific needs and desired speed or upgrade path rather than any advantage one company has over the other. Those days are behind us.

you're correct, i could have mentioned specific CPU models between certain ranges, but i'm more interested in overall details and what others have shared about each one. personally, i've only owned an AMD CPU besides the one from a cheap laptop i found during an auction. that experience isn't enough to compare them directly. the laptop's CPU is an AM4, but since it's so inexpensive, it doesn't provide much extra information. thank you, and that's what i'm aiming for too. if someone just showed me a computer and told me to use it, i wouldn't have any real ideas without trying to figure things out myself—just like i mentioned, i mostly have Intel CPUs and haven't really used AMD ones. mainly because older laptops usually only had 4GB of RAM, which limits performance. to be honest, about ten years ago my sister's ex-boyfriend worked in the USAF and advised me against AMD products, saying they weren't as reliable as Intel. for gaming, i needed something capable enough for casual titles but not overly demanding like competitive games such as Fortnite or CSGO. thank you, and i think i'll check that article later.
