i plan to use any CPU available at its highest possible speed. for an intel 10th gen chip, i’ll run them at 5ghz or higher. with intel turbo boost max technology 3.0, the difference might be noticeable. if it’s an amd processor, i’ll push it to its full potential. my graphics card is a 2080 aorus, which is sufficient. i’m considering getting the 10600k now and possibly selling it later for a 10700k when prices fall.
With the latest updates for Zen 3, performance is expected to match or exceed Intel's, especially with faster clocks. It's wise to hold off now while Intel and AMD release their next-generation models.
for me is actually not worth the time waiting for new cpus. that is actually the reason i bought a 2080 about a month ago. i thought about waiting for the new zen 3 cpus that they said will be announced in July/August but then they delayed it to September and when they'll be available to purchase it will probably be October or even November so im spending 1000$ on a pc that ill enjoy for 3 and a half months and when i will get to use it daily it will already be 3 years old so its either now or in 3 years... and from what i get now with my i5 3550 and 2080 i actually want an upgrade right now and since i will be overclocking, im ending up going with intel
If I had to purchase today, I’d choose the i7 10700k because it’s more affordable than the i9 9900k and I believe having eight cores in three years will be preferable over six. What’s on the horizon doesn’t matter to me. If I need something right away, I’ll take what’s available now, which is the i7 10700k.
these are the costs in my region: the 10600k costs 338 dollars, the 10700k is 508 dollars plus 230 dollars extra for two more cores and four more threads. If I upgrade to an AMD with a 3700x and B550 AORUS Elite, it will be more affordable but won’t offer the same high overclock potential as Intel. I can push the 10600k to around 5.1ghz while it’s stable, whereas the 3700x tops out near 4.4ghz. My strategy is to buy the 10600k and then monitor the prices of the 10700k and 10900k. If those drop within a couple years, I’ll sell the 10600k and likely get a 10900k to fully utilize my motherboard. That would make sense if the next generation switches to a different socket or remains costly. If both 11th and 12th gen stay on LGA1200, I might still want the i7 option from those models.
