I'm considering Ryzen 5 3600X versus Ryzen 7 2700X to boost performance over my i5 7600K. It's unclear whether I should opt for the 6th or 8th generation Ryzen, especially since my needs include video editing, recording videos, and gaming.

the 2700x offers better value for multithreaded tasks and maintains solid frame rates in games. if the prices match or a 3600 offers better performance at a lower cost, I’d choose the 3600 for its stronger memory controller. reviewing benchmarks will help identify which specifications are most important for your needs—they’ll suit your use case well either way.

I don't have a specific budget, but I can help you find options that fit your needs. What's your budget looking like?

The Zen 3 announcement came out on the 8th, meaning the product release is coming up soon.

I'll hold off for now. The next generation Ryzen releases are expected soon. These upcoming processors should be even more challenging compared to Intel's premium models than the current 3000 series. I frequently upgrade my systems and have used an 8700k, 9700k, and now a 3800x. The performance gains in games at 1440p and 1440p ultra wide haven't been significant.

It could be slightly better, though it wouldn't add much value.

XT isn't a good deal unless the cost matches closely (unlikely). They perform better in binning and run slightly faster, but max out around 200Mhz. You might achieve a steady 200Mhz on a 3600Hz clock, though the improvement won't be noticeable for most users. The price difference won't justify the typical $100 range.
