The i3 12100 likely benefits from more than just stock cooling for optimal performance. While upgrading might seem unnecessary, some users report reduced performance with stock cooling.

I understand that new generations of Intel processors often generate excessive heat, yet I find it hard to believe the weakest model would slow down because of this issue

As long as you're okay with the sound, the stock cooler works well for the 12100. It also supports peak performance for the 12400. The main concern comes with higher-grade chips, where the stock cooler may start to cause issues. You can test it out temporarily, and if you dislike the noise, consider upgrading to a compact tower cooler later.

You're not affected by noise since you use a headset and don't hear it clearly.
