What cooler are you using? I own a 6700k @4.6 on a Hyper 212 EVO and it’s completely reasonable. I think temperatures reach the mid-80s during stress tests. I don’t recall my voltage settings… Just begin checking the temperatures and stability. Each chip behaves differently, and every chip handles heat through the IHS in its own way, plus varying voltage needs for consistent performance.

I understand your Arctic Freezer 34 is quite similar to the 212 EVO. Are you curious about the power consumption of its CPU? It seems like a key factor given your PSU isn’t very strong.

Earlier setup featured an i7-6700K running at 4.5MHz with 1.27V boost, paired with Deepcool Gammaxx 400. Based on memory readings, maximum temperatures stayed between 75°C and 85°C, varying with ambient conditions, while power consumption from the wall outlet remained roughly 200 to 220W.

I have a relatively old power supply and a gaming graphics card. I’m aware I might be overloading things, so I’m searching for a more powerful 500W unit.

For the CPU side, I used an AMD Fury OCed that could handle the whole setup exceeding 400W, possibly reaching around 500W.

I wouldn’t suggest boosting the clock speed on a 430w power supply, as its ability to maintain stable voltage is questionable… and there’s a strong chance it won’t handle heavy loads well—especially if both the CPU and GPU are under strain. It’s unlikely any game would consume more than 300-350 watts, but with only a 430 watt unit you’re getting close to its limits. If you decide to replace it, opt for something above 650w to ensure future-proofing. On upgrading, the new PSU can still serve you for years. Investing in a 500w just doesn’t justify the cost; a modest extra for 650 will cover more demand under load. A 6700k might only push around 150-160 watts max, while a 9900k @5ghz draws about 205 watts on its own—requiring a robust VRM. No 6700k will match that performance. You could experiment with overclocking, but I’d avoid it too much due to possible voltage instability from a possibly low-quality unit. You might still achieve some gains, but caution is key.
