Hello! I'm considering upgrading my office/light gaming PC and planning to go with an Intel platform this time. Right now, I'm using AMD on my secondary machine, specifically an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G with an MSI B450M Mortar Titanium, 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 RAM, and an old Gigabyte GTX 750Ti 2GB OC 2x Windforce Edition. I'm transitioning from my very old AMD AM3+ system. I'm curious about choosing between Core i3 10100 or 10300/320. Yes, I think a Core i5 would be a better fit and more powerful, but my budget is tight because of my part-time job. I also have an MSI MAG B460 Tomahawk from March this year, which is a good deal, and I plan to reuse other components. Thanks in advance!
With the silicon shortage, you might secure a display adapter for your 3400G and upgrade to an i5. Look into local resale prices for a 3400G.
I recently visited a few local PC parts stores and sadly found that the Ryzen 5 3400G is out of stock for a while. It seems almost everywhere in my country, the item isn't available anymore. The current price listed was about 821 Romanian Lei, which is roughly $186.99 including VAT. That’s a bit more than the price of an i3 10100/5F if I’m correct. I also experimented with overclocking the 3400G a few times, but my PC would crash completely and I had to remove the CMOS battery to restore normal performance. It looks like my CPU might not support overclocking at all, even with the Arctic 34 cooling solution I use.
Absolutely, I see the point. The 10th gen i3s do offer turbo frequencies up to 4.3-4.6GHz, which is impressive. While they have 4C/8T support, I believe it should comfortably meet most requirements. I’m curious about the i3 10105F—its specs seem quite similar to the i3-10300, and it’s significantly more affordable. Regarding performance in games like NFS or GTA at lower settings, I’m expecting solid results. I’ll also check how it performs with my old GTX 750Ti.
The 10th gen i3 offers sufficient power for that card, similar to an i7 when the 750 Ti was just released.
