Hello everyone, I've got a pretty tough build going on. I'm using an MSI 975X Platinum Power Up board with an Intel E6600 CPU (2.4 GHz, 4MB cache). It comes with a WD Blue 500 1TB HDD and a WD Green 500 500GB SSD. The main question is whether I can add another SSD to this setup. Since it's a SATA connection, the issue might not be the drive itself but compatibility with the motherboard or controller. Thanks for your help! This is definitely a challenging project.

The device supports SATA ports, making an SATA SSD compatible. Which SSD would you like to install?

SATA is claimed to be backward compatible, which explains the lack of concern. It's not that Windows is strict about controllers such as FreeNAS.

Sata 1 controllers can be a bit finicky, and some users avoid Sata II or Sata III. The Powermac G5 experienced this problem. As for your question, I haven’t faced any issues with LGA775 boards or Sata SSDs. All the drives I’ve worked with were Sata II, which is fully compatible with modern Sata SSDs.

I’d consider the Samsung Evo 970 or the Crucial MX500

The device may not support the SSD due to its physical constraints.

Very selective about compatibility, especially with the Powermac G5. Generally, LGA 775 connections tend to be SATA II based from my observations.

It seems Apple's PowerMac G5 differs significantly from Intel processors.

Absolutely, that's correct. You're right about the compatibility—LGA 775 boards usually work with SATA II, and I was just confirming what Jurrino mentioned.

The 970 is an NVMe storage, meaning it won’t boot directly there. The MX500 should function properly, possibly due to a strange problem, so consider purchasing it from a seller offering returns.
