Intel 4770K paired with 2333mhz memory
I own an intel 4770K and 2333mhz Corsair memory. The default ram speed for 4770K is 1600mhz. I would need different XMP profiles for various settings, but it only has standard which is 1333mhz or xmp 2133mhz. My motherboard is Asus Hero VI. Now that the default speed for 4770K is 1600mhz and the memory controller is built into the CPU, if I enable the XMP profile would I be overclocking the CPU? Haswells running hot as it is, and I don’t want to overclock the CPU since stability is more important than speed for me. Will running the xmp profile and using the memory at 2133mhz cause any stability issues?
never tried haswell so it could be incorrect
but didn’t believe memory speed depended directly on CPU speed in that way
meaning—if you overclock one, the other tends to overclock too
i understand that overclocking one might complicate overclocking the other
though i assumed they were adjusting them separately

I think the memory controller is built into the CPU. When you overclock the memory, the controller works beyond its specs, so it gets overclocked too. It's a bit unclear how crucial that is.
yes integrated but not linked
this means if you boosted the memory speed, the CPU would be less likely to reach its own high overclock limits compared to using slower memory.
for instance, with a higher memory speed you might only hit a 4.4ghz overclock, while without that boost the CPU could go up to 4.6ghz
Yes integrated, but not directly linked. If you boosted the memory speed, the CPU would be less likely to reach as high a frequency as with slower memory. For instance, you might only hit a 4.4GHz overclock, while without overclocking the memory it could go up to 4.6GHz. Since I'm not overclocking the CPU itself, setting the memory to XMP (2133MHz) seems safe and appropriate.
