If you're looking for cores, AMD could be a better option. I used a 12400 for an iGPU need and would likely have chosen Ryzen with a dedicated GPU for better efficiency. The situation might change if you upgrade to an iGPU that replaces the 1650.

Thanks for the update. The iGPU/dGPU should be dedicated solely to PLEX transcoding. For a 12/13400, the iGPU is likely more suitable than the 1650 in that role. I favor Intel’s iGPU for troubleshooting as well. Regarding VMs, I have some experience, though I’ve only worked with them in setups containing multiple cores. A 13400 offers 10 cores (6P + 4E), so assigning a VM four cores would provide 4P or 2P + 2E depending on distribution.

Based on what I've seen online, using NVIDIA for transcoding works better in Plex compared to Intel, even though Intel is expected to function. I don’t have direct experience, but I hope someone with more insight can confirm this. Regarding the main point, I chose a model with just P-cores to avoid this problem if I were running a VM. Still, if you can tell me which cores to assign to a VM, it might help. AMD offers similar core types and more units, so it could be a better choice for virtual environments.

I don't believe VMs are very sensitive to memory bandwidth, though encoding could be impacted. * Because you already have the RAM available, I'd just include it. * There are some productivity benchmarks for the 13500 (DDR4-3466 vs DDR5-6400) and here: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel...dr5/2.html The tool that shows the biggest effect seems to be file compression (7Zip and WinRAR), but it's possible the small tests used might become much more noticeable with longer, intensive tasks (like hours or days).
