If both disks are HDDs, adding a cache SSD—like a small 128 or 256GB unit—could improve performance.

They are an HDD, and I already have an SSD for caching. I'm having trouble integrating the SSD into the pool. In the GUI I added it, but it didn't behave as a cache—it paused until another disk was ready to extend mirroring.

You don't need to worry about it in Windows. You can manage your cache using built-in tools or third-party apps.
