I'm looking into getting a new gaming PC and wondered if I could download the free Windows 10 upgrade onto a flash drive and install it on my current machine. My old system ran Windows 7, but I don’t have the product key since my parents bought it from someone who likely didn’t provide one.

I don't believe you're ready for that yet.

Upgrade works on already-activated PCs or allows a clean install via an unused key.

I’m unsure about the exact pricing details, but you can purchase a Windows 7 key now and upgrade within the next 362 days. Keep in mind you’ll need to switch to Windows 10 before performing a clean install. Note: After upgrading, a clean install isn’t possible according to a Microsoft representative, though I’ve managed it before successfully.
