Windows 10 is set to launch on the 29th of this month. I plan to finish my gaming setup after tomorrow and have decided to install Windows 10 directly. I’m wondering if it’s feasible to upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro? For instance, I can purchase Windows 8.1 for $35 (from g2a.com) now, and then move to Windows 10 Pro. If that works, I could save a significant amount of money. Before proceeding, though, I need to clarify my thoughts.

yes you can, but what I wonder is what if you need to reinstall win8.1 or 7 after a year, can you still upgrade to win10? also do you need to install 8.1/7 drivers on your motherboard or win10 right away, even though your update to win10 is not yet done since lan-port drivers are not installed..

I’ll stick with Windows 10, confident it’ll work out in the end. Regarding drivers, I’m not entirely sure—perhaps we’ll need to update them after fully upgrading to Windows 10? Either way, since I’m planning to start using it soon, I’ll install the Windows 8.1 drivers now.
