Installing Windows 10 on an old system?
Hi just a quick note about Linux. I’m using Manjaro KDE Plasma on my daily tasks—browsing the web, checking email, Facebook, and general browsing. My 18-year-old Dell OptiPlex workstation runs smoothly with a 2.5GHz Intel CPU, 4GB RAM at 1333 MHz, and a GTX 710 1GB graphics card. I’ve also run Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 7 Pro, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Windows 11 on this machine without any problems. I’ve worked in the PC building and computer repair industry since 1995, seeing it all. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks and Cheers from someone who’s both an old-school PC builder and a modern gamer. I also have a current system that meets today’s standards. Cheers.
The Dell computer I currently use is configured in AHCI mode within the drive settings of the BIOS. When installing Linux KDE Plasma on an SSD, it should be set to AHCI. For HDDs, choose Legacy or IDE. I hope you succeed. There are other options besides Windows OS.
