Hi, I recently purchased an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-A motherboard and decided to upgrade my RAM. My current setup includes an i7 5820K and a Strix GTX 1080 with 8GB of each type. I have one 8GB stick at 2666MHz and another at 3200MHz. Should I upgrade just the first stick to 3200MHz or both sticks to 3600MHz? The prices here are quite similar.

I’ll order a fresh 2x16 (32 GB) 3600 Kit for that setup. It should cost about $65–80 right now. Don’t forget to update the BIOS for the CPU so it works properly!

Locating the identical RAM you own is more challenging than doubling a 16GB capacity...

I’ll look for cheaper kits though—I’m not sure if I’ll ever require 32GB of RAM. The board seems to be already updated, as indicated by the “Ryzen 5000x Desktop Ready” label on the box.

Identify the RAM model in your Goodram by checking PassMark RamMon or Thaiphoon Burner.

Are you playing games? There are several recent titles that handle more than 16GB of storage. For the BIOS, make sure to update it as well. Always run the newest BIOS paired with the latest AGESA.

I’ll play games occasionally, mainly browsing the web, editing photos in Photoshop, and video editing in Premiere. Once I have the needed parts—like a new cooler and a PCIe WiFi card—I’ll update my BIOS to the latest version.
