I recall reading about the difference between Program Files and Program Files (x86). It seems that newer and more modern games are impacted by their installation location. Cheers!

The folder names don't actually hold any real properties. You're free to place applications anywhere you want. There are two folders, just because 32bit and 64bit apps shouldn't be in the same directory. No performance problems, only that a 32bit app shouldn't attempt to use 64bit resources.
