Installing discrete/hybrid GPU on elementary/Fedora system
I've been thinking about setting up a dual-boot with Linux on my laptop. My Intel-AMD hybrid GPU is a bit tricky, but it should be manageable. Since most of my work will be in Linux, I won't have to worry about the AMD part if needed. For choosing between elementary and Fedora—or another OS—I'd suggest looking into what each supports for your development needs. Your AMD GPU might work well depending on the distribution you pick. Let me know if you need more details!
The open-source AMDGPU/radeonsi drivers follow a somewhat unusual naming style but work with the TOPAZ chipset and your R7 M440. Both Ubuntu-based releases (like Elementary) and Fedora should function out of the box without any manual setup. They also update automatically. For hybrid graphics, switching between igpu and dgpu is possible both manually and through automatic methods. Refer to the details here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PRI...offloading Arch is known for strong community support on this issue and is one of the most popular distros. P.S. A professional driver from AMD is available at: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles...Notes.aspx. Avoid installing the pro binary from AMD, as it tends to be unreliable.
