Hello, I’m planning to move into a new home and am considering a new network setup. I’m thinking about using Ubiquiti equipment: the Unifi Dream machine pro, the USW-24-POE 10 Gbit switch, three Wi-Fi 6 access points, three G4 Bullet cameras, and one G4 doorbell. What do you think? Are there other appealing options on a similar budget? It might be worth waiting a few months to see what new releases come out. I’m open to any suggestions. Cheers, Frank

The provided switch isn't suitable for your access points.

You require these details to determine if it's suitable for a home-based business and what kind of service you're offering. Understanding the context helps identify whether a basic mesh solution is adequate or if more advanced options are needed.

Why not? What are your requirements? Are you requiring every single switch port? Which space do you need to cover? Multiple levels? Different wall types? A detailed floor plan with AP placements would help provide better guidance. Ubiquiti offers a design hub for this purpose.

I operate my business from home, which means I need strong property protection and reliable internet coverage throughout the house—basement, two floors, garage, and garden. I’m unsure if one single mesh will provide consistent signal across the entire property, including a 1-acre area.

I need reliable internet security and protection for my property. I want full control over internet traffic and router settings, which helps me set up various learning environments. Having 24 ports seems appropriate for my setup. I appreciate the suggestion from Ubiquiti Design Center.

Check if the UAP-AC-PRO-5 works with the integrated switch on the Dream machine.

Reviewing the USW-24-POE specifications reveals compatibility with 802.11at/af on ports 1 through 16, and voltage levels that meet the U6-Lite requirements. The UAP-AC-Pro represents a previous WiFi 5 standard (pre-Wave 2) designed for dense settings. NanoHD and FlexHD are second-generation WiFi 5 APs, offering improved performance over the models mentioned earlier, especially in residential areas, while also being more affordable. The U6-Lite generally outperforms these in home use and provides better value unless you need support for many simultaneous wireless devices. Position them thoughtfully throughout your space using the Design Center for optimal results. By the way, the '5' in 'UAP-AC-Pro-5' indicates a set of five APs in a package. These units lack PoE injectors and necessitate a compatible PoE switch or your own injectors. Additionally, the UDM-Pro does not include PoE ports. The newer UDM-Pro-SE models do feature PoE ports.
