I upgraded the CPU from an i5 8400k to an i7 9700k and started using the PC along with my motherboard. The loading screen appeared and stayed frozen for a moment before freezing completely. This experience led me into trouble trying to boot Windows from a USB drive and experimenting with BIOS settings. I’m really confused—please help me out.
The BIOS on the board was likely not compatible with the 9th generation processor. Have you verified that you installed the latest BIOS before upgrading the CPU? To update the BIOS, you must remove your previous CPU, refresh it, and then install the 9700K model.
On Christmas day I purchased the i7 and was still learning about building and upgrading PCs. That morning I attempted to replace the i5, but nothing worked. Today I woke up and saw your message—replaced the i5 and it’s no longer freezing. When loading, the BIOS is updating. It’s currently fixing disk errors. I’ll let you know if it’s resolved or not.
