Installed new power supply, but graphics performance dropped.
I upgraded my old Seasonic Focus SGX-650 to the Corsair SF850. Surprisingly, my GPU performance dropped. In the Cyberpunk benchmark, I got 144 FPS for Seasonic and 131 for Corsair. The Superposition 4k averaged 16398 for Seasonic versus 13865 for Corsair. The specs show a CPU of 5900x, GPU of 7900, 32GB RAM at 3200MHz. I noticed the SF850 uses two PCIe slots instead of one, which might be affecting it. Could this be the issue? Any advice would be appreciated.
No modifications were made to other hardware. The benchmarks were executed using the Seasonic PSU, followed by swapping it out and rerunning the tests. Running GPU benchmarks before and after the PSU change helps assess performance consistency.
My view is that Corsair has been declining in quality over the past five years. It’s improbable the PSU affects your performance, so I’d check hardware details or GPU power usage during a stress test and compare with Seasonic. If there’s a real issue, I’d go with Corsair; otherwise, stick with Seasonic unless you needed an upgrade.
