I just completed my build and started it up. Everything seems normal – the fans are running, the pump is active, RGB lighting is on, and all components are functioning. The GPU fan is spinning. However, I’m not seeing any display output, and neither is my mouse or keyboard connected to the case or motherboard. The only concern is that my RAM isn’t lighting up (it’s RGB-enabled), and the motherboard displays a code 53. I’ve checked the documentation, which indicates a memory-related issue. There’s also a flashing DRAM light on the board. I’m operating the system without any internal drives, as I wanted to test my old drive before wiping it. My specs are: motherboard – Asus Maximus VIII, RAM – G Skill Trident 3200MHz (2x8GB), CPU – Intel i7-6700K, cooler – Deepcool Castle V2 240 RGB, GPU – PNY GTX 1080, case – NZXT H500, PSU – EVGA G5 650. I remember installing the GPU in my previous setup, which worked perfectly. This doesn’t seem to be a GPU problem. The power supply also functions correctly, as noted in the build notes.
I’ve noticed a few things that might be relevant: my motherboard and CPU were originally reliable. The board had bent pins, so I sent it to ASUS for repair – they charged $100 and provided a refurbished unit. I also faced difficulties with screws on the motherboard, as two didn’t secure properly and kept spinning. I’m unsure if these issues contributed to the current problem, but they’re worth mentioning.
Additionally, during the first boot, I realized I might have installed the RAM incorrectly – it clicked into place but turned out to be upside down. I managed to fit it in, but online research confirmed the mistake. Even when turned off, the motherboard’s RGB stays active unless I flip the power switch on the PSU. It made a popping sound once when I powered it down.
I’m worried about damaging the board by repeatedly turning it on and off without fully disconnecting the PSU. There’s still residual power for the LEDs, which could cause trouble. This situation is really frustrating. I’ve already spent a lot on repairs, and now I’m afraid that without being able to disable the LEDs in BIOS, I might destroy the board. Please advise.
It seems you might need assistance with a few issues. Placing the RAM backwards can cause damage, and using incorrect screws for the motherboard standoffs may lead to a permanent problem. The RGB lights on the motherboard when off are typical. A "pupping" sound might be normal or indicate the board is overheating the case. Try installing one RAM stick in the first slot and see if it boots. You could also attempt to flash the BIOS, rename the M8F file, and use a USB stick. Remember, the PC should be off during flashing. The popping noise originated from my power supply unit. I suspected it was linked to the RGB lights remaining on, continuing to supply power through the unit. It seems the case isn't making direct contact with the motherboard, as I verified by removing all screws and inspecting the standoffs with a magnifying glass—everything matched. I’ll retry the steps and get back to you later today; I need to head to work soon. Another discovery: one of my motherboard screws appears missing. I’m unsure if it fell into the case or not. I shook and moved the case around but couldn’t locate it. It’s unlikely it slipped behind the board since there’s minimal space for it. I did replace a screw in the missing spot.

I managed to get it functioning. The issue was that my RAM wasn't fully inserted at the bottom. I could install it backward before, but only the top section with the notch clicked in. The bottom part didn't fit completely because the notch in the middle of the RAM and slot doesn't align, so it would only fit from the top or the bottom.
