At the start of Windows 11 setup you have four choices: language, time and currency, keyboard or input method. Selecting the right one ensures metric units and proper formatting while keeping US English and a standard keyboard. Choosing Canada might affect things—your software often uses US measurements and formats, like inches or US letter size, even after changing the language to UK settings. The issue is that in Windows 10 you set US for language and switched to metric later, but installed apps still default to US units. The registry change for language packs can’t be altered in Settings on Windows 10, so consistency matters.

You can select all desired options from the control panel after installation. This includes adding or removing keyboard layouts, adjusting currency, setting time formats, date formats, and more—often under a region-specific name. The software defaults, such as those in Office and LibreOffice, are typically based on your chosen language (e.g., US). You should be able to change the default to A4 or another format. In additional settings, simply search for "Language settings" and modify preferences like keyboard layouts and language options.

Reminder: Avoid picking UK as the region on the post-installation screen in Windows 11. I ended up with a UK keyboard that can't be removed... @mariushm Thanks, it's similar to what I did in Windows 10. The issue with these software is that there are numerous default settings that need adjusting for each program (I recall changing units to cm in Word but PPT still uses inches, or I'm not sure about LibreOffice...). It would be better if they set everything correctly from the start.
