I've been working with Format Factory for some time and had no issues until now. I'm trying to install it again but Microsoft Defender blocks it as a virus. Is there something wrong with the factory? If it's not working, do you have any recommendations for alternatives that are simple to use and dependable?

I've been using an older version for years. I attempted an update about two years ago but encountered problems. The newer release was quite unstable. The author never responded.
The software has consistently declined in performance. If you need to use it, look for a previous version and test it in a virtual machine first. Steer clear of the latest releases. I'm unsure which older version is best. I'm using 4.5 but won't endorse it. Check with others who are using an older version to get their feedback.
I tried installing the newest version inside a VM, but it worked. During setup I had to reject two additional applications, and then a third one also refused installation. I captured a screenshot. By then, another program had already been installed by Windows Defender.

For those of us unfamiliar with 'Format Factory', a link please?
What does it do?

The software has consistently deteriorated over time. If you need to use it, look for a previous version and test it in a virtual machine first. Steer clear of the newer releases. I can't suggest a specific older version; I'm using 4.5 but won't endorse it. Check with others who are using an older build and see their experiences.

Steer clear of the newer versions.
Edit: HandBrake could be a better option for video conversion.

Thanks, gardenman. I've been searching for a location to download older versions and the site mentioned most frequently is oldversion.com, though I received only a blank page when I tried. I'll keep trying...
