I'm looking into which Linux Mint release you downloaded—Cinnamon or Cinnamon Edge. Based on the system details I found, I think the Edge version would be better (if you haven't already), as it's optimized for newer hardware and might resolve the freezing issue. But keep in mind, the USB problems could still persist depending on your motherboard and BIOS settings.
