I’m having trouble setting up Pop!_OS on my external SSD—"Installing Pop!_OS failed, likely because of a hardware issue." I managed to get Xubuntu installed instead.

What are the specifications? The latest release?

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with Pop!_OS 20.10 works fine. I also attempted 20.04, but encountered the same issue. Installing Xubuntu was successful.

Pop-up if it resembles Ubuntu logs in /tmp/installer.log, we’d need to review this file for useful guidance. A fast search reveals this issue often occurs during installation in incorrect modes—either an EFI setup on a legacy system or an MBR on an EFI-supported platform. How was the installer generated? Is your BIOS without CSM enabled? Have you attempted to manually access the boot menu and select EFI as the boot method?

Your graphics card might be different from what you're using. It could be an NVIDIA card paired with a different operating system, or vice versa.

It really doesn't matter; the system just defaults to Nouveau, similar to Ubuntu.

It seems uncertain about this. On the one side, because it's x11, it will likely need a new fallback. Yet on the other, it supports separate AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA versions.

I wasn't aware POP had a dedicated image from Nvidia, and I didn’t own an Nvidia GPU or use POP OS. It feels odd how they approached this, though I suppose they have their reasons. Edit - I wonder if I’m the only one who has to search for the right spelling of Nouveau every time I try to use it. Usually I handle spelling well, but this word just doesn’t stick.
