i moved my pc from a $20 thermaltake to a better nzxt s340 case. this is where issues started—there are no fn 5.25 bays for a cd rom drive. when i booted the pc in windows 7, i couldn’t locate any wireless networks (always wired because the dog chewed the cable). yet the windows 10 insider preview lists all available networks. i’m planning to reinstall windows 7 since disabling ap mode, removing drivers, and reinstalling didn’t help. i’ve tried two different apps to create a boot usb installer disk. rufus works without errors on three or four different usb drives, but the windows tool keeps showing a bootable error when using 32a or 64gb sizes. i’ve tested various usb ports and modes—uefi and non-uefi—and even changed the secure boot settings in bios. my portable usb dvd burner starts up and freezes during cd/dvd boot with two different cables. now i’m about to disassemble the case and replace the old dvd drive.
Is your device connected via a USB 2.0 port? Windows 7 isn't compatible with USB 3.0.
