Hello, I have an I3 12100 and a MSI B660 DDR4 board with Corsair 3200 RAM. Can I install new RAM sticks that support 4800MT/s? Should I use one channel at 3200 and another at 4800? The motherboard supports XMP 2.0.

Initially neither uses DDR4 nor DDR5; additionally, if they were both DDR4, it would default to the slowest speed.

Yes, you can adjust speeds for different channels.

Good observation, I didn’t consider RAM OC at first. Still, that significant difference in MT/s might cause instability. You could combine them, but the quicker unit would be restricted to the slower one’s performance at Erixson.

There are many 4800+ bin DDR4 units available, but they’re not recommended unless you expect issues because the XMP feature won’t function properly. With a 3200 kit and a 4800 kit, both will operate at the lowest common speed and timing, so choose the 3200 model.

It could become less reliable because the motherboard would force all DIMMs to match the same frequency and delay. This uniformity might actually improve stability rather than reduce it.
