I'm browsing the ASUS site for my motherboard and need to figure out what downloads and installs are necessary. I've already added the obvious ones like LAN, Wi-Fi, storage tools, chipset utilities and Bluetooth drivers. Still unsure about a few items—wondering if they're essential. In Device Manager, I see two exclamation marks left. I've heard Intel MEI will handle the PCI Simple Communications Controller, but what about the Unknown USB Device? The Armoury Crate Intel_MEI_V1952.14.0.1470_WIN10_64-bit Realtek_Audio_Driver_SS3_DTS_V6.0.8899.1_WIN10_64-bit ASUS_AI_Suite_3_V3.00.60_Install_Program_WIN10_64-bit is listed too.
The unknown PCI Simple Communication Controller is probably Intel Management Engine Interface, IMEI. The USB connection is somewhat complex, but it seems likely it uses Bluetooth. You can verify the device ID and look up its details online. Right-click the item in your device manager, choose properties, then go to the details section. In the dropdown, select Hardware IDs—this should display the hardware identifier. Use a web browser to search for this ID; you might find the device’s name or specifications. For instance, searching for PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0416 could yield relevant information. Good luck!
