You have several storage options: 4 volumes, including an IDE drive, a 1TB HDD, and a 120GB SSD. You created a 40GB partition before installing Ubuntu and were unsure how to move Ubuntu onto it. There should be a way to transfer the files from your existing partitions to the new 40GB partition.

When you set up Ubuntu, you get the option to choose the installation location. Select the partition you want. Are you encountering any issues? Is the Ubuntu version already set up?

I just started it from USB but didn’t know where to install Ubuntu. I thought I’d need a 9GB drive, but I’m not sure how to adjust that for a 40GB one. I’m confused about what to do next!

There are no images involved. The instructions mention checking the installer for the installation location and note that the 9gb partition might be used as swap.

You can click the "Install ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS" option in the top left corner. It will start the installation process for Ubuntu on your computer. If you're unsure, follow the on-screen instructions carefully.

Display images of the installer. After selecting language and normal installation, an install type menu appears. Observe what options are available.

Whenever I try it, it displays all the partitions I chose—40GB—and then it crashes. I’m still managing to get back onto Windows 10 somehow.

Do you need to set up the bootloader? Is your device running an older OS or UEFI?

According to my understanding, EFI is a technology related to embedded systems and firmware.

Check if the Ubuntu installation is on the same disk as the Windows 10 setup. If different, there could be a boot configuration issue in your BIOS.
