I have an old 2.5" SATA SSD that I freed from a previous laptop. I used Etcher to flash Linux onto it, but haven’t installed it yet. Now I want to set up Kali Linux, though I’m struggling to wipe the drive and see only a small amount of space left. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What operating system are you running? You’ll probably need to wipe the partitions on the 2.5" SSD and start fresh by combining them into one big drive. Based on what you’ve shared, that’s my initial thought, and I’d be the first to try it. This means all your data could be lost if you proceed without caution.

I first used my MacBook to flash the drive with Etcher. After plugging it in again, it displays a non-readable message, though I've initialized it. The size appears as 2.4MB, but when accessing the partition menu, it shows the original 60GB. The screen layout is unclear and confusing.

Kali Linux isn't meant for installation on physical devices. It's not the top choice for modern "1337 hacxkerman" tasks.

Previously, using virtual machines caused issues with my system and made my Ethernet stop working completely. The Wi-Fi adapter also stopped functioning properly when I received a new dongle.

If this applies, don't install it at all. Focus on getting Lubuntu running. I favor Endeavor OS for its architecture, though I've also used MX Linux and Void Linux effectively.
