Hey there, I'm preparing for the final touches on my new build. Tomorrow's the last piece I need, so I'm hoping everything will be ready by tomorrow night. If I didn't make any mistakes or damage anything during setup, I'll install Windows, download drivers, and updates. I have a dedicated USB for the installation tool, which is how I plan to get Windows running on my new PC. I was thinking about gathering all the necessary drivers—GPU, motherboard, BIOS, etc.—on separate USB drives so I can start installing them right away once I'm logged in. But a friend advised me against installing new drivers from a USB; they suggested downloading them directly on the PC where I'll install them. They also recommended doing all the Windows updates first before adding any other driver packages. So, does the order of installation or updates really matter? Or is there a specific sequence I should follow? Thanks!

The sequence no longer matters. Modern operating systems are flexible. Updates usually add the required drivers. Most new setups boot network automatically, eliminating the need for USB installation.

I’d prefer to adjust the drivers yourself since Windows often adds outdated versions.

Windows may support installing older device drivers for your motherboard chipset, audio, and networking components. When updating GPU drivers, you often have a clean install option, though with AMD cards it can be tricky. You might want to manually add your 5600 XT drivers to remove previous versions. Regarding the B450M drivers, if you only use an M.2 NVMe drive, installing those should help ensure compatibility.

I’d only consider manual installation for GPU drivers first. If there’s an issue or a feature demands manufacturer-specific drivers, I’d go ahead and install them manually. Setting up chipset, LAN, sound card drivers from scratch is no longer needed.

Sometimes Windows picks old or generic Microsoft drivers, so I always download the main drivers from the motherboard website on the manufacturer’s site for extra security. This has helped me avoid issues with chipset, audio, and network settings. I also prefer getting the graphics driver directly from the GPU app—whether it's GeForce Experience or AMD Adrenalin—instead of Windows taking it.
